Practical EV charging for education and public sector estates

EVC Group helps public organisations plan safe, scalable charging for staff, fleets, visitors and communities. We balance operational need, site constraints, procurement and whole-life cost—then deliver directly or through approved partners where the route requires it.

Charging for schools and education

Schools, academy trusts, colleges and universities may need charging for employees, visitors, estates vehicles, minibuses, contractors or wider sustainability programmes. Each estate has different parking, access, safeguarding and electrical constraints.

EVC can assess the immediate requirement while protecting for future adoption. The result may be a small first phase of staff chargers, a wider campus plan, fleet charging or infrastructure that can later support additional bays without repeating disruptive works.

Wider public sector estates

The same infrastructure-led approach applies across local authority, healthcare, blue-light, housing and other public environments. Projects can involve fleet transition, workplace charging, public access or a combination of user groups on one site.

We separate the technical requirement from the procurement route. Where an organisation can contract directly, EVC can deliver the agreed scope. Where a framework or existing prime contractor is required, EVC can work as a specialist delivery partner within that route.

Design around the estate

  • Staff, fleet, visitor and public user groups
  • Operating hours, gates, security and out-of-hours access
  • Safeguarding and segregation from pupils or vulnerable site users
  • Accessible bay design and inclusive user experience
  • Existing electrical capacity, measured demand and future estate plans
  • Term-time, holiday or phased construction windows
  • Tariffs, reimbursement, public payment and reporting
  • Maintenance ownership, response requirements and whole-life budget

From early feasibility to handover

Feasibility and survey

Review the site, parking, electrical supply, vehicle demand and existing strategy. Identify critical surveys, permissions, data and connection constraints.

Design and business case

Develop a proportionate charging mix, phasing plan, budget and procurement-ready scope. Where relevant, consider grant eligibility, but do not base the project on funding until current criteria and approval are confirmed.

Safe delivery

Plan works around the live estate, with clear access, safeguarding, logistics, CDM responsibilities, isolations and stakeholder communication.

Operation and reporting

Configure user access, tariffs and reporting, then hand assets into a defined inspection, maintenance and reactive support process.

Staff and fleet charging on one platform

A single site may support employees who pay for their own charging, operational vehicles that need priority and visitors who require simple access. A suitable CPMS can separate those user groups while giving the estate team one view of charger status and utilisation.

EVC defines the software requirement alongside the physical design so payment, reimbursement and operational reporting are not left until commissioning.

Plan for whole-life value

Public sector projects are scrutinised on both capital cost and long-term value. The lowest-cost installation can become expensive if it cannot be expanded, maintained or supported. EVC considers infrastructure phasing, hardware serviceability, software costs, warranties, access, energy use and ongoing maintenance as part of the initial plan.

A specialist partner for framework holders and principal contractors

EVC can support organisations already appointed to public-sector frameworks or construction programmes with EV-specific survey, design, installation, commissioning and maintenance capability. We can operate under an agreed partner brand and reporting structure while bringing focused EV infrastructure expertise to the delivery team.

Frequently asked questions

Can EVC deliver if our ganisation must use a framework?or

Where the procurement route requires one, EVC can explore delivery through an approved framework holder, principal contractor or existing partner.

EVC does not claim a framework position on this page. Where the procurement route requires one, EVC can explore delivery through an approved framework holder, principal contractor or existing partner.

Potentially. The site would need an appropriate access, payment, safeguarding, lighting, signage, insurance and operational plan. EVC can help assess the technical implications.

Yes, subject to programme and availability. Holiday working can reduce disruption, but surveys, design, procurement and permissions should be completed early enough to protect the delivery window.

What Our Customers Say

Sam Ryder
Great service and spotless installation
The installation itself went as smooth as possible, and everything was left neat and tidy. When installation day came, Asif, the installer, contacted us well in advance with an ETA that was stuck to. Overall, the help, guidance, and service received from Andrew was exceptional. We had experienced problem after problem with our energy supplier (So Energy, for anyone interested) and genuinely thought this install wouldn't happen, but the team delivered a great experience.

I wish more traders were this professional
They know their work load and optimised their time beautifully. No mucking rounding from their end. I had medical situation with my dad and they organised around me without adding stress to my day. I couldn’t have asked for a more co operative and caring company. On top of that, the engineer was polite, caring and clean! He left my house and drive clean. He kept us up to date on what he was doing and gave us enough notice for when power would go off and how long for and then gave us a full explanation on how to start and use the EV charger.
Thank you for today and the effort you have put in to get my charger in. It’s much appreciated.

Excellent service. From the moment my Ohme charger was ordered Andrew was in touch and went through the whole installation process with me.
My charger was installed by Oliver who contacted me to give me notice of his attendance. The install went really well and Oliver explained the whole charging process and app. I would highly recommend.

A superb EV installation
An excellent, efficient OHME EV charger installation by EVC. Asif fitted the equipment and cabling very neatly. Chris did a brilliant job replacing the block paving after digging a trench. He made a fantastic effort in levelling, cleaning and re-sanding the paving so It looked better than before.
Both Chris and Asif were pleasant and trustworthy. The good communication throughout from Andrew was appreciated. I highly recommend them and EVC to potential customers.
Emma

Daisy
Excellent experience
I can’t fault EVC from start to finish the communication has been excellent. Ours was a tricky install spanning a long distance and across a path but Asif, our engineer, fitted the wiring neatly and worked all day in the rain to ensure the work was completed. Asif was professional and friendly and a credit to EVC.
The communication from Andrew throughout made sure I knew what would happen when. I highly recommend this company.
Steven
I’m a bit surprised at the earlier review as this has not been my experience at all. Both guys who showed up were both friendly and professional.
I’d have Chris and Ollie back in a heartbeat.
