Workplace, fleet and depot charging often overlap. Employees may charge their own vehicles during the day, company cars may need reimbursement and operational vehicles may need guaranteed energy before the next shift. Treating each requirement in isolation can duplicate infrastructure and create competing loads.

EVC develops one site-wide plan, then separates access, priority, tariffs and reporting through the electrical design and charge point management system.

Workplace charging

Workplace charging can support staff retention, sustainability targets, visitors and the transition to electric company cars. The most effective schemes are clear about who can charge, how spaces are managed and whether electricity is free, subsidised or paid for.

Fleet charging

Fleet charging begins with route and duty-cycle data. Daily mileage, return time, parking duration, payload, seasonal demand and operational exceptions all affect the energy requirement. The solution may combine depot charging, workplace charging, home charging and access to public or shared networks. EVC can help translate that operational picture into charger quantities, power levels, managed demand and a rollout sequence. This reduces the risk of paying for power that is not needed or discovering that vehicles cannot complete the next duty cycle.

Depot and high-power charging

Depots place more demanding requirements on electrical infrastructure and availability. A design must consider maximum demand, simultaneity, connection capacity, redundancy, vehicle movements, cable management, protection, maintainability and what happens when a charger or communications link is unavailable. EVC supports AC, DC rapid and high-power charging, including mixed-power strategies. Higher output is used where the operational window justifies it, while dynamic control can reduce peak demand and coordinate charging with the building or wider site load.

The right charging mix

Long dwell time

AC charging is often suitable for vehicles parked overnight or throughout a working day. It can serve more bays at a lower infrastructure cost, provided the energy can be delivered within the available window.

Short turnaround

DC charging may be required for intensive routes, opportunity charging, resilience or vehicles with limited dwell time. The business case should account for connection, distribution and demand costs as well as charger hardware.

Mixed operation

A hybrid design can use lower-power charging for routine demand and faster chargers for exceptions, priority vehicles or peak operational periods.

Power, grid and load management

Available site capacity is often the first constraint, but a grid upgrade is not the only response. EVC considers the existing supply, measured demand, operational flexibility, load management, phased connection requirements and—where appropriate—battery storage or a new point of connection.

Home charging as part of the fleet system

For company cars and take-home fleets, home charging can be part of the wider operating model. EVC can support managed residential surveys and installations while keeping driver communication, exceptions and programme reporting consistent.

The correct reimbursement and data solution depends on the employer, vehicle arrangement, charger and platform. It should be defined alongside the delivery programme rather than added after installation.

From pilot site to rollout

A first site can be used to validate assumptions, standardise technical designs and refine the operating process. EVC can then create repeatable survey, design, pricing, installation and handover standards for a wider estate.

Frequently asked questions

How do we know whether we need AC or DC charging?

Start with the energy each vehicle needs and the time available to deliver it. EVC models the operational window and site constraints before recommending the charging mix.

Can load management avoid a grid upgrade?

It can sometimes defer or reduce an upgrade by sharing available capacity more intelligently, but it cannot create energy that is not available. The answer depends on measured site load, vehicle demand and operational flexibility.

Can employees pay for workplace charging?

Yes. A suitable CPMS can manage user access and tariffs. The commercial, tax and employment policy should be agreed by the client alongside the technical setup.

Can EVC support multiple depots?

Yes. EVC can develop standard design and delivery principles, then manage site-specific surveys, exceptions, programmes and reporting across a rollout.
